Noerr expands tax practice with Ulrike Sommer

02.09.2015

Noerr is further expanding its tax practice: on 1 September 2015, Ulrike Sommer, who is a lawyer and tax advisor, is joining Noerr’s Düsseldorf office as an Associated Partner. Sommer comes to Noerr from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where she was based in Cologne and Hamburg, having previously worked at Flick Gocke Schaumburg in Bonn.

Ulrike Sommer’s special focus is on providing tax project advice to small and medium-sized enterprises as well as listed companies, including their shareholders. She has extensive practical experience and know-how, particularly in the area of restructuring and reorganising companies. She also regularly advises on tax structure issues in M&A transactions. At Noerr, Ulrike Sommer will continue to focus on these areas, working closely together with Dr. Lutz Schmidt, co-head of the firm’s Tax & Private Clients practice group.

“Today, tax excellence is a necessary prerequisite not only for the tax project business of top law firms, but precisely also for M&A transactions, since tax aspects are becoming increasingly important for these”, says Lutz Schmidt. “I am therefore very much looking forward to working with Ulrike. With her extensive practical experience she will perfectly complement our integrated services.”

Noerr’s Tax & Private Clients practice group gained a prominent addition at its Düsseldorf office only last year when Christian Becker-Pennrich joined the firm. A lawyer and tax advisor, he came from Commerzbank and is an Associated Partner at Noerr. In May, the Frankfurt office also gained the tax advisor Katrin Gänsler as an Associated Partner who had previously worked at Allen & Overy. Already in February, Dr. Lars Kutzner joined the team. As a new Noerr Partner in the area of compliance, he is in particular responsible for introducing tax compliance management systems.

The experts of Noerr’s Tax & Private Clients practice group advise clients throughout the entire tax value chain. Their services include developing tax structures, advising on and implementing structures, tax compliance issues as well as tax enforcement consulting. The members of the group, which is headed by Georg Edelmann (Munich) and Dr. Lutz Schmidt (Düsseldorf), work closely together with the other practice groups of Noerr.
