The weekly business magazine WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo) has awarded several Noerr partners from the firm’s Digital Business practice the distinction “Top Lawyers”.

For the second consecutive year, the head of Noerr’s Data Protection practice group, Daniel Rücker (Munich), has been honoured as “Top Data Protection Lawyer”.

In addition, the title “Top IT Lawyer” has been awarded to three Noerr partners: Peter Bräutigam (Munich), Joachim Schrey (Frankfurt) and Thomas Thalhofer (Munich).

To compile the best lawyers lists for WiWo, the Handelsblatt Research Institute surveyed 940 lawyers from 130 law firms. From this list, a jury of experts filtered out 28 firms with 34 data protection lawyers and 27 firms with 45 IT lawyers.

Noerr sees itself as a pioneer and market leader in providing legal advice on the digital transformation of the economy. For years, Noerr has been the only law firm to receive five stars from legal publisher JUVE in the IT categories contracts/processes and transactions /outsourcing.

One recent example of the firm’s expertise is the support it provided to Finanz Informatik Technologie Service GmbH & Co. KG (FI-TS), the central IT service provider for the association of Germany’s banks and building societies (Sparkassen), on entering into an outsourcing agreement with Google Cloud. Previously, Noerr advised Bayer AG on realligning its IT system – the largest IT case for a law firm in Germany in the last ten years. The firm also supports companies on issues related to using artificial intelligence.

Besides, leading trade associations in Germany and other European countries also rely on Noerr’s advice. In cooperation with BusinessEurope, the European umbrella association of national industry and employers’ associations, Noerr drew up the Europe-wide study Legal issues of digitalisation in Europe in 2017. Prior to that, in cooperation with the Federation of German Industries (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie - BDI), Noerr conducted a digitalisation survey among the legal departments of German companies and on behalf of the BDI prepared the legal opinion Digitalisierte Wirtschaft/Industrie 4.0 (Digitalised Business/Industry 4.0).
