The EEG surcharge on self providers of energy according to the EG 2014

24.10.2014

Whoever generates and uses his own electricity  has not so far under existing law been usually liable for the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) surcharge on the self-generated and used electricity. The EEG 2014 which came into force on 01 August 2014 therefore introduces a fundamental change. From now on, all energy suppliers are subject to the EEG surcharge.

There are, however, a number of exceptions, in particular for existing installations. But even the operators of existing installations must acquaint themselves with the new rules in order that they do not risk their existing protection. Operators of new installations generating electricity for themselves must also comply with new notification duties. Cornelia Kermel und Martin Geipel describe the new rules both for existing and new installations in detail and indicate what must be observed in practice.

Their article has been published in the October/November issue of the German periodical Law of the Energy Industry (RdE Recht der Energiewirtschaft, in German only).
