New provisions on Eco Design Law for domestic ovens, hobs and Extractor hoods
10.03.2015
From 20.2.2015, stricter energy-saving regulations apply under Eco Design Law for ovens, hobs and extractor hoods. The basis is the Regulation (EU) No. 66/2014 of 14.1.2014, which includes the ecodesign requirements for domestic ovens, hobs and extractor hoods.
Eco Design Directive
At European level, Directive 2009/125/EC “establishing a frame work for the setting of eco design requirements for energy related products of 21.10.2009 (Eco Design Directive)” constitutes the frame work for eco design law. This framework is implemented in the Federal Republic of Germany by the Act on environmentally friendly design of energy related products – the EVPG of 27.2.2008. Ultimately, this constitutes legally binding and serious requirements, therefore affecting market players such as in particular manufacturers, importers and dealers, on the placing of such products on the market.European Implementation Regulation
European Eco Design Law is specified by European implementation measures or regulations. Meanwhile there are many minimum requirements for individual product groups such as TVs, electrical motors, domestic wash machines, domestic lighting (“bulbs regulation“) or coffee machines for non-commercial use.Market surveillance measures in the absence of compliance
Non-compliance with the energy consumption requirements may lead to market surveillance measures of the authorities specified in the Act. Breaches in the worst case could be punished by prohibition on sales or the ordering of a recall. Well
