JUVE Awards 2015 – Noerr wins three “Firm of the Year” awards

30.10.2015

Noerr has received the awards for “Firm of the Year for Antitrust”, “Firm of the Year for IP” and “Firm of the Year for Trademarks and Unfair Competition” from the legal publisher JUVE. The awards were handed over to representatives of Noerr in Frankfurt last night.

The award for “Firm of the Year for Antitrust” was accepted by Dr. Alexander Birnstiel as head of the firm’s antitrust practice group. Birnstiel commented as follows: “Antitrust law is becoming increasingly important for the strategic business decisions of companies and international groups and at the same time is one of the crucial compliance issues. This is one of the reasons why antitrust belongs to our strategic growth areas. This award particularly acknowledges the consistent expansion of our practice group, demonstrated not least by the opening of our Brussels office in 2014, which has already been able to position itself excellently on the market.”

The JUVE judges share this view, noting the following in the award presentation speech: “The Brussels office has achieved an enviable presence in record speed, with several international groups being advised by this office in the meantime.” It went on to say that the practice group led by Alexander Birnstiel – in which younger partners are now also becoming increasingly visible – was developing splendidly: “This Noerr practice group is involved in almost every antitrust case of relevance and is amongst the strongest players when it comes to the topical issue of damages.”

Noerr also received two further awards for “Firm of the Year for IP” and for “Firm of the Year for Trademarks and Unfair Competition”.

Dr. Ralph Nack, partner in the firm’s practice group “Intellectual Property: Trademarks and Patents”, accepted the award in the category “Firm of the Year for IP”.

The following was emphasised by JUVE: “Noerr has for some time now been establishing a clear strategy in the field of intellectual property. It is clear today that the firm has been turning the right screws.” JUVE also highlighted the successful work of the Alicante office as well as the sustained increase in personnel and the successful positioning in representing patent exploiters.

“Our IP practice is characterised by an all-embracing approach, combining professional expertise in the field of IP with our industry know-how and dealing with technological developments and their legal assessment – we keep abreast of the times”, says practice group head Dr. Christiane Zedelius, emphasising: “Our clients benefit also from this in court proceedings.” She points out that one of the particular strengths of the practice group is the enforcement of clients’ interests in court, which applies to IP proceedings in the field of trademarks and unfair competition as well as the highly complex field of patent infringement cases. As far as IP portfolio management and worldwide applications for the protection of IP rights are concerned, the group’s international positioning is the key to success: “Our office in Alicante is in the meantime among the top 10 German applicants for Community trademarks”, says Christiane Zedelius.

In 2014, JUVE presented Noerr with the awards for “Firm of the Year” and “Firm of the Year for M&A”. This year, Noerr has already received several awards: at the Chambers Awards the renowned British legal publisher Chambers & Partners presented Noerr with the award for “Germany Law Firm of the Year 2015”, and the legal magazine The Lawyer honoured Noerr as “Law Firm of Year 2015: Germany” in its European Awards.
