Social responsibility

We want to give something back – to society and to our employees.

Hands forming heart symbol in city diversity

Our ambitions are to contribute to society by:

  • promoting diversity through targeted recruitment and training programmes;
  • creating a performance-based and appreciative work culture in order to ensure our sustained commercial success; and
  • taking on social responsibility in the community by carrying out pro-bono work and supporting social projects.

Valuing differences and individuality is part of our cultural DNA. It is central to our strategy. This is based on diversity management motives and explicitly aims to achieve equity, i.e. real equality regardless of age, ethnic origin and nationality, gender and gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion and beliefs, sexual orientation and social background.

Diversity

Diversity defines us and makes us successful: our teams are international, interdisciplinary and interculturally competent. Their wealth of personalities and perspectives is valuable in and of itself. At the same time, their ability to find innovative and creative solutions provides added value for our clients.

We live diversity and

  • drive relevant issues with a permanent diversity committee;
  • maintain a firm-wide diversity network;
  • signed the Charter of Diversity in 2012 and celebrate German Diversity Day every year;
  • are involved in the following initiatives and networks:
    • International Bar Association LGBTQI+ Law Committee
    • Prout Employer Partner Programme and advisory committee of the PROUT AT WORK Foundation
    • RAHM Global LGBT & Leadership Community
    • Initiative Women into Leadership e.V.
    • Network of Multicultural Lawyers e.V.;
  • participate in the PANDA Women Leadership Network and LGBTQI+ job and career fairs (including Sticks & Stones) and hold our own diversity career events;
  • participate in the “Gesicht zeigen” list run by the legal LGBTQI+ career network ALICE;
  • advise the Charter of Diversity e.V., PROUT AT WORK Foundation, National Paralympic Committee Germany and Initiative Women into Leadership, alongside many other advisors, on a pro bono basis;

  • are sponsors of the Diversity Student Group at Bucerius Law School.

Her

The Her initiative helps us create an environment where women in leadership roles are welcome and women’s careers are specifically promoted. The programme is designed to actively shape equal opportunities and to realise women’s inherent right to participate equally in all aspects of life – in our firm, the legal profession and beyond.

Her stands for modern empowerment and provides our lawyers with tailored support, whatever their gender:

  • Her Rise is part of our unique education, training and professional development programme which supports our female advisors on their career paths, featuring a range of topics such as self-marketing. Her Rise events are usually jointly organised by female partners.
  • Her Network is our initiative by female lawyers for female lawyers and provides a platform for regular communication and cross-firm networking, for example in connection with guided tours, lunches or presentations.
  • Her Executive Circle brings our female lawyers into contact with female executives from business, academia and the public sector and aims to promote the advancement of women in leadership positions. Apart from presentations on specialist topics, panel discussions and virtual lunch sessions, we also come together regularly for face-to-face meetings.
  • Her Success, our mentoring scheme for female lawyers, supports them on their individual career paths. All female senior associates are accompanied by a tandem consisting of experienced female partners as mentors alongside a counsel or associated partner as a “buddy”. This combination ensures that all relevant topics can be addressed. Our female associated partners receive personal career development assistance from a mentor who is a member of the partnership.

Thrive

Our job is challenging and demanding. With the Thrive programme, we take care of everyone’s physical and mental well-being, the sustainable maintenance and improvement of our performance and that we master our professional challenges with joy, energy and success, regardless of our individual personality style.

With our Thrive initiative, we are establishing our firm-wide health culture in a three-stage process:

  1. Inform
    We impart relevant knowledge on the topics of healthy performance and physical and mental health in training courses and seminars.
  2. Empower
    We enable employees to develop their own specific strategies and methods in workshops and coaching sessions.
  3. Implement
    Together, we use this knowledge and these tools in everyday life to increase our well-being along the path of mindfulness and self-care. We manage our strength sustainably and maintain our mental and physical health over the long term.

Noerr KinderCamp

Children are the future. Yet many face that future with less than favourable prospects. We’re doing something about this by offering socially disadvantaged children from Germany, Austria and Romania the opportunity to enjoy carefree holidays.

Our Noerr KinderCamp has been providing a holiday camp for children and young people since 2011. Located in Thalgau on Lake Fuschl, Austria, non-profit organisations from Germany, Austria and Romania send children there for one-week holidays each year. The holiday camp came to life on a Saturday at the end of April 2011 when around 450 advisors grabbed their saws, hammers and brushes to lay the colourful groundwork. Our greatest wish is that the children and young people participating will take the rewarding experiences (and educational guidance) from the KinderCamp with them as a positive force in their future lives.

The purpose of Noerr KinderCamp e. V. is to help disadvantaged children and young people by establishing and running a holiday camp in which the children and young people are supervised and cared for by trained professionals. Sponsors are welcome to donate any amount. Noerr KinderCamp e. V. is a registered charity and can issue its sponsors a receipt for donations. Noerr Partnerschaftsgesellschaft mbB performs all administrative tasks and bears the costs so that the entire amount of the donors’/sponsors’ contributions directly benefits the children and young people. We would be pleased to name you as a sponsor of the KinderCamp, at the camp itself and at events.

Pro bono

As lawyers, our sense of justice isn’t just limited to the law. We also have an affinity to good causes and human rights. This is why we make our expertise available to those who need it most:

As a member of the world’s largest network of independent law firms, Lex Mundi, we support select social entrepreneurs with much-needed legal advice.
Two of the association’s goals are to provide free legal advice for charitable purposes and promote greater acceptance of pro bono legal advice in the legal profession, and we’re proud to be a member.
We also regularly advise international, non-profit institutions on German law on a pro bono basis. A prominent example is the Swedish Right Livelihood Award Foundation, nicknamed the “Alternative Nobel Prize”. We have provided comprehensive legal support to the organisation for over a decade.
We provide pro bono advice to DBS, the umbrella organisation of the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the National Paralympic Committee for Germany. It’s one of the world’s largest sports associations for people with disabilities, with around 510,000 members. By representing the organisation, we are promoting popular and elite sports as well as inclusion of people with disabilities. We’re glad to play a part because “living diversity” is a cornerstone of our strategy.
