Noerr advises BS|ENERGY on sale of Mehrum hard-coal power plant
Noerr has advised the Braunschweig company BS|ENERGY on the sale of the Mehrum hard-coal power plant. The purchaser is Czech utility company EPH.
The transaction includes EPH taking over the operating company Kraftwerk Mehrum GmbH, in which not only BS|ENERGY but also the majority shareholder, the public utility company Hannover Stadtwerke, hold interests. The power plant, located on the Midland Canal in the Peine district, provides net energy of 690 megawatts. More than 120 employees work at the site.
A team led by Dr Christoph Spiering, a Noerr partner in Hamburg, provided BS|ENERGY with advice and support. Noerr regularly advises on financings and transactions in regulated industries such as the energy sector. Teams from the firm have recently advised clients such as the European Investment Bank (EIB) on the €950 million refinancing of the Butendiek wind farm on the Baltic Sea and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on a package of laws to reorganise the financing of atomic waste disposal as well as on setting up a fund in the form of a public trust.
