The Data Act is coming ‒ are you ready?

16.05.2025

The clock is ticking: From 12 September 2025, the extensive requirements of the Data Act will become binding for many companies. The aim of this new EU regulatory package is to ensure the fair, transparent and innovation-friendly handling of data across all sectors.

For the first time, the Data Act establishes a harmonised set of rules across Europe for data access and use, significantly impacting existing business models, technical infrastructures and contracts. Companies that offer connected products (e.g. IoT devices) and related services will be particularly affected.

Notably, the Act requires companies to provide certain data to users and authorized third parties, while also regulating key issues such as data use, contract terms, and data portability.
