Foreign trade law: Claus Zimmermann to join Noerr in Brussels

05.11.2020

Noerr is strengthening its international and EU trade law advisory capabilities with Claus Zimmermann. As of 1 December, Zimmermann will move from the US law firm Sidley Austin to Noerr’s Brussels office as an associated partner.

Claus Zimmermann advises large enterprises and governments on all aspects of EU foreign trade and regulatory law as well as on WTO law. He has many years of experience as litigation counsel in complex proceedings before the WTO, the European Court of Justice and national courts. “His outstanding expertise in WTO law, trade barriers and trade remedies, in EU sanctions law and in trade litigation fits perfectly into our advisory portfolio, especially in light of the upcoming end of the Brexit transition period,” emphasises Bärbel Sachs, who heads the Foreign Trade practice group from Noerr’s Berlin office. The team is one of the leading practices on the market and provides advice on all aspects of German, European and international trade law, including export control, embargo and customs law as well as anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and WTO law.

Noerr’s new associated partner will be working closely with the foreign trade team in Berlin, while also functioning as the first contact in Noerr’s Brussels office for any issues involving international and EU trade law, EU regulatory affairs as well as contentious proceedings. “Bringing Claus Zimmermann on board enables us to continue the strategic development of our Brussels office,” says Jens Peter Schmidt, who heads the office together with Dominik Wendel. “The fact that Claus Zimmermann is joining us underlines the relevance of the Brussels office for our international positioning – beyond the traditional areas of antitrust and competition law.”
