State Aid – New rules to support Project of Common European Interest

The EC adopted the Communication on Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEIs) as part of the Com-mission’s State Aid Modernisation initiative. The communication set out the criteria under which Member States can support transnational projects of strategic significance for the EU. Key features are: extending existing provisions on IP-CEIs to any sector of the economy, diversifying forms of support, increasing aid intensity, allowing aid for the first industrial deployment. The communication will enter into force on 1 July.
