“The most far-reaching reform of public procurement law in over a decade”

The European Commission intends to fundamentally modernise and simplify European public procurement law in order to make it fit for purpose in the face of current and future challenges, as well as to speed up public procurement. Following a detailed evaluation of the existing public procurement directives from 2014 and a subsequent EU-wide consultation, the European Commission will present a legislative proposal in September 2026.

A comprehensive draft of an EU public procurement regulation has recently been made public; this is intended to replace the existing 2014 public procurement directives with a single legal act, which will then be directly applicable across the EU.
