Stellungnahme zum Krieg in der Ukraine

As a law firm we at Noerr pledge ourselves to a rule based international order. The invasion of Ukraine violates international law and fundamental principles of a civilized world. And it causes great suffering to the people.

We are thinking of the Ukrainian people and we are appalled by the atrocities they are exposed to. We are also very aware of the situation in the neighbouring countries and the worries and fears in the entire region. What it takes now is to stand united and to help each other.

We therefore gave us the following principles to be observed in connection with client matters involving Russian business interests:

1. Our firm will not take on any new matters for Russian clients or companies that are under Russian control or subject to Russian influence. We will end existing matters of this nature in line with our professional obligations. These changes also apply to Belarusian instructions, if any.

2. It will still be possible for us to assist German and international companies in all issues related to the sanctions and with their exit from the Russian or Belarusian markets.

These principles go beyond the requirements of the sanctions adopted by the EU and reflect our values and common philosophy as a responsible international law firm.
